The crash was reported around 2:10pm.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
The road is blocked and diversions are in place at Mount Curl Road and Jeffersons Line.

Metservice has issued a Heavy Rain Warning for Tasman west of Motueka for 12 hours from 10 am this morning.
A Heavy Rain Watch is also in in force for Bryant and Richmond Rangers and the Rai Valley this afternoon and evening.
The bad weather will affect State Highway 60 in Golden Bay, Tākaka Hill, and State Highway 6 from the Rai Valley to Nelson.
Drivers travelling on these highways must drive to the conditions and take extra care.
Wet roads are slippery, so reduce your speed, increase your following distances, and avoid sudden braking. If visibility is poor, please use your headlights – be safe, be seen.
Heavy rain also increases the risk of slips and localised flooding. Drivers must be prepared for such hazards.
It is also recommended drivers check road and weather conditions before they travel.

Sandra King, Bay of Plenty System Manager, Maintenance and Operations, explains; “During weather events, road conditions can change quickly, and our teams are ready to respond. Repairs will happen as soon as possible, and in some instances, we may need to install traffic management to ensure the safety of road users and our crews.
“Colder weather means the roads can be icy in shaded or alpine areas, and roads can be slippery even when it gets warmer during the middle of the day.
“Adjust your driving to reduce the risk of sliding. Slow down, increase your following distance, and avoid sudden braking or turning.
“Extra care should be taken, especially over bridges. Bridges cool down quicker than a normal section of road as cold air has more space around the structure to cool it down. That makes it easier for ice to form, which then takes longer to melt away. A bridge may be slippery even if the road either side of the bridge isn’t,” says Ms King.

Waikato and Bay of Plenty state highway works as at 26 July 2024
Roxanne Hilliard, Wellington Transport Alliance Manager, says road crews will be improving the road surface between the Chester Road and Norfolk/Cornwall Road.
“Road crews will be carrying out water cutting, a process where high-pressure water blasting trucks are used to remove excess bitumen from the road. Excess bitumen on roads is bad for skid resistance.”
“Crews will also be carrying out surface treatment work at the Norfolk/Cornwall Roads and Wiltons/East Taratahi Roads roundabouts to help improve tyre grip, making it safer.”
“Slippery roads increase the chance of crashes, particularly during wet winter weather. Improving the road’s texture and grip makes it safer for everyone,” Ms Hillard says.
Other work will also be done during the night closures. This includes installing signs and edge marker posts, pothole repairs, line marking, and clearing debris.
The work will be done from Monday, 29 July, until Thursday, 15 August, under night-time road closures.
Ms Hillard says the closures will be in place between 9 pm and 4 am Sunday to Thursday nights. The highway will be open in both directions on Fridays and Saturdays.
“Where possible, we aim to do this at night when fewer vehicles are on the road. It is less disruptive and means fewer drivers are affected.”
“Local road detours will be available. They will take a little extra time to travel, so make sure you allow some extra time if you travel between Masterton and Carterton while this work is underway. This is critical maintenance and safety work, and I want to thank the public for their patience and understanding while it is completed,” Ms Hilliard says.
Work is also planned in Carterton on Sunday night, 4 August, near Frederick Street and Clifton Avenue. Stop/Go traffic management will be in place while these roadworks are completed.
Drivers are asked to follow the available detours and obey all traffic management in place. It is there to keep workers and the public safe. Access for residents and emergency services through the works area will be available at all times.

The drivers hold a mix of class 2-5 licences and dangerous goods endorsements, which were attained after attending training courses and assessment provided by 2 Drive Well Ltd in the last 18 months in Palmerston North or Auckland.
2 Drive Well Ltd’s approval to offer driver training is currently suspended while a NZTA investigation is under way.
The affected drivers will have three months to re-sit their relevant training course with another training provider to demonstrate that they have knowledge required by law for the specific licence classes or endorsements they hold.
Depending on their individual circumstances and experience, some drivers will be offered an alternative option to sit a full practical test through VTNZ.
“NZTA understands that the need to re-sit the course is inconvenient for these drivers as well as impact their businesses and customers. However, these drivers are responsible for operating some of the heaviest vehicles on the road so we have to be certain that they are adequately trained and have the knowledge and capability to manage the associated risks. The safety of all road users must take priority,” says Brett Aldridge, National Manager, Road Safety Regulation.
This is the second course provider NZTA has taken regulatory action against following an extensive audit of course providers that began last year. The approval of dangerous goods course provider Drive Smart Ltd was revoked in June this year. NZTA is now working with the heavy vehicle and driver training sectors to lift the quality and suitability of driver training courses.
