Emergency services are in attendance at a serious crash on Highbrook Drive in East Tamaki.
The two-car crash happened around 6:20am about 1km west of El Kobar Drive.
Initial indication are that two people are seriously injured.
Diversions are in place as the road is blocked currently.

One person has died after a multiple vehicle crash in Waitematā this afternoon.
Police were notified of the crash at the intersection of Sunrise Avenue and East Coast Road in Windsor Park, Mairangi Bay at around 3pm.
The driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene.
There were no significant injuries to any of the occupants in the other three vehicles.
The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene, and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

As the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency summer roadworks programme gets under way this month, some of the region’s major work sites include State Highway 2 (Athenree to Bethlehem) and State Highway 36 (Pyes Pā to Ngongotahā), as well as continuing safety works on State Highway 33 between Paengaroa and Rotorua.
Bay of Plenty Transport System Manager Roger Brady says Waka Kotahi will be delivering roadworks on over 140 lane kilometres of state highway in the Bay of Plenty to ensure the safety and resilience of the network.
“The warmer and drier spring and summer months are the best time for major roadworks as daylight hours are longer and the warm temperatures and dry air helps new seal to stick to the road surface.
“Considerable planning is done with our team and suppliers to look at historic traffic and travel trend data, and what worked and didn’t work last season. While we aim to complete the work with as little disruption as possible, the reality is there will be delays to journeys,” says Mr Brady.
Waka Kotahi will use mobile message boards, social media and radio advertising to keep people informed ahead of major works. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead by using the Journey Planner website.
“We want to keep everyone safe, including our road workers. Speeding through roadworks puts the safety of other road users and our road workers at risk, and we ask that people please slow down, leave space and be patient.
“Most work stops before busy holiday travel periods like Labour weekend, Christmas and New Year to minimise disruption to people’s journeys. Where we can, we also try to complete roadworks at night, over the weekend or outside peak times,” says Mr Brady.
Waka Kotahi is responsible for approximately 11,000km of state highway network across New Zealand Aotearoa. At a value of $52 billion, the state highway network is the country’s largest value physical asset and is of critical importance to the country’s economic and social wellbeing, connecting people and places and efficiently moving freight to markets.
“The overall investment in maintenance through the 2021-24 National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) is $2.8 billion over the next three years, including an estimated $240 million for emergency works. This is a 30% increase on the previous three years.
“This means we can maintain current levels of service and we will prioritise keeping our roads safe, avoiding disruption for users, as well as minimising future costs of restoring the network to sustainable levels of service,” says Mr Brady.

8 October 2021: Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises resurfacing work will take place on State Highway 30 (SH30) at the Tahuna Road and Te Teko Road intersections in Te Teko next week.
Work will take place as follows:
Stop/Go traffic management will be in place, with a 30km/h temporary speed limit.
During the work, there will be road closures at the Tahuna Road and Te Teko Road intersections, with signposted local road detours in place for motorists needing to access SH30.
Traffic needing to use Tahuna Road will be detoured via Galatea Road, and traffic needing to use Te Teko Road will be detoured to via Powell Road.
Motorists are asked to take extra care when travelling through the site and follow directions of traffic management staff and signs.
These works are part of the Waka Kotahi road maintenance programme to repair and reseal state highways across the Bay of Plenty to ensure the safety and resilience of the transport network.
In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed.

A contract has been awarded to build a new, two-lane bridge over the Clutha River at Beaumont, part of SH8 in Otago, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
“A $25 million construction contract has been awarded to HEB Construction,” says Colin MacKay, Principal Project Manager for Waka Kotahi.
“We are anticipating crews setting up on the new bridge site in the coming weeks with work starting on the bridge from the end of this year. The aim is to have this long awaited, two-lane bridge open in the second half of 2024.

“The existing 137-year-old single lane, wrought iron bridge is one of a handful still operating on our highway network, and forms an important link on SH8 between Dunedin, Central Otago and Queenstown. However, it’s no longer suited to today’s higher traffic volumes, and the growing number of larger trucks using this highway,” says Mr MacKay.
Clutha District Mayor Bryan Cadogan is also pleased to see progress at the Beaumont bridge site. “This is another key commitment to the Clutha District from Waka Kotahi and ensures greater access through to Central Otago with a bridge that is designed to meet modern requirements.”
The new bridge has been designed to meet expected traffic growth, including heavier trucks, and modern earthquake standards. After it opens, the landmark single lane bridge will continue to serve the area by providing a link to the popular nearby Clutha Gold walking and cycling trail.
“The new bridge will be a key contributor to creating a transport system for Otago and Clutha District that’s safe, resilient, meets current and future needs, and connects people, products and places,” says Mr MacKay.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Bay of Plenty System Manager Roger Brady says the steep slope below the road has progressively deteriorated since December 2019, and further deterioration would put the state highway at risk; the alternative detour is approximately 6 and a half hours.
“The works will consist of constructing a 27-metre long sheet-pile retaining wall and upgrading the drainage in the area, and are expected to be complete in mid-December.”
The site has been operating with a reduced 30km/h temporary speed limit in place, and will be reinstated to the permanent speed limit on completion of the works.
Due to the complex nature of the repair and the confined working area, temporary traffic management will be required, including a 30km/h temporary speed limit. Stop/Go traffic management will be in place from 7am – 5pm and traffic lights in place overnight from 5pm – 7am, Monday to Friday. Some weekend work may be required.
Over width vehicles are able to pass through the worksite, however haulage companies with any significant loads over 3.5m in width are to liaise with Waka Kotahi prior to travel.
Mr Brady asks people to be patient and respectful to roadworkers and to look out for their safety and wellbeing.
“If you are using the roads during this period remember to comply with temporary speed reductions and directions of traffic management staff to help keep everyone safe.”

Contractors will be following strict industry standards provided by Construction Health and Safety NZ (CHASNZ) to ensure the safety of workers and road users. People must maintain safe physical distancing of two metres when walking/cycling near the sites.
