One person has died after a single-vehicle crash at McLaren Falls Park this morning.
Police were notified that a car had crashed into a tree at around 7:50am.
The sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.
The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene, and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

The change to road layout will relocate the two northbound lanes of State Highway 2 closer to Golf 360 on the Matapihi side and the southbound lanes will move closer to the Bayfair Shopping Centre.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Regional Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Jo Wilton, says the traffic switch will enable the creation of a work zone in the middle of SH2 (north of the Bayfair roundabout) to progress the next steps of the pedestrian and cycling underpass and components of the Bayfair flyover.
“Work will proceed on the underpass’ central section, additional piers of the four-span Bayfair flyover and the flyover’s northern embankment.”
Construction of these elements will be highly visible to all road users, says Ms Wilton.
“The underpass’ central section, comprised of a 60-metre open-air trench, will connect the two completed underpass entrances, which got underway in May. The next stage of the Bayfair flyover will see two more piers constructed; one located next to the underpass’ central trench and the other near to the existing pier, which is located in the centre of the Bayfair roundabout.”
A major traffic switch of this kind typically takes up to two weeks to complete, says Ms Wilton.
“While the specific dates for the change in road layout will be shared closer to the time, there will be a series of night works ahead of time to complete the necessary preparation, as well as for the switch itself and the required follow up work. This includes completing the new road area, barrier realignment, new line-marking and the removal of old line-marking.”
Lane closures will be necessary during night works. Where possible, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction until the switch is complete. The traffic switch is not expected to impact the existing pedestrian and cycling route throughout the site.
In the event of unsuitable weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed.

The Bayfair flyover and the pedestrian and cyclist underpass are expected to open to the public on completion of the project.

To carry out essential resurfacing works Waka Kotahi will be closing the SH1 northbound lanes from Silverdale to Pūhoi between 8pm and 5am on Tuesday 19 October.
The toll road and Johnstone Hill tunnels will be unavailable to northbound road users while these works are carried out, however, emergency services will be accommodated.
A detour route is available by leaving SH1 at Silverdale and taking the Hibiscus Coast Highway.

Further north along SH1 at Te Hana crews will be carrying out essential drainage and asphalting work to create smoother journeys.
This work begins overnight on Monday 18 October, when stop/go management and temporary speed limits will be in place.
However, from Tuesday a full overnight road closure is needed.
Details for the Te Hana works are as follows:
A detour route will be available with road users asked to follow signage from Wayby Valley Road at the south of the works, and Mangawhai Road north of the works. This may add up to 20 minutes to your journey.

SH 2, Remutaka Hill remains closed to motorists after a serious crash earlier today.
Police were notified at around 11:50am of a truck, which had overturned and gone down a bank.
The Serious Crash Unit is examining the scene and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible, as there will be severe delays.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Bay of Plenty System Manager Maintenance and Operations, Roger Brady, says Waka Kotahi is working hard with contractors and suppliers to deliver better journeys.
“In a number of instances, we have been able to change the way we carry out the works along SH2; avoiding Stop / Go operations and maintaining two-way traffic flow, doing patching works at night and keeping works in the busier areas to between 9am and 3pm.”
This is what you can expect to see along your journey this week between Waihī and Tauranga:
“We want to keep everyone safe, including our road workers. Speeding through roadworks puts the safety of other road users and our road workers at risk, and we ask that people please slow down, leave space and be patient.
“While delays can’t always be avoided, Waka Kotahi is striving to provide better quality information and advance notice of possible delays,” says Mr Brady.
“Considerable planning is done with our team and suppliers to look at historic traffic and travel trend data, and what worked and didn’t work last season. While we aim to complete the work with as little disruption as possible, the reality is there will be delays to journeys.
“Thank you to those people who take the time to give feedback to the team at Waka Kotahi, we are listening and always looking to improve our approach.”

The second stage of this work kicks off next week, 18 October, and will take around five weeks to late November. The main work will begin after Labour Weekend.
Drivers will be delayed for up to 15 minutes during daytimes on weekdays while this work is underway, says Tresca Forrester, Journey Manager for Waka Kotahi.
Traffic signals and Stop/Go manual traffic management will be used throughout when the highway is down to a single lane. The school bus will be accommodated at its key times.
