Rakaia Highway/State Highway 1 between Ashburton and Fairton is closed following a serious crash.

The two-vehicle crash was reported to Police around 7:20pm.

Indications are that there are serious injuries.

Diversions are in place and motorists should expect delays.

The Serious Crash Unit are in attendance.
