Three weeks of rockfall stabilisation work Kawarau Gorge, SH6

“This means they can get back to the Bungy Bluff in the Kawarau Gorge next week to complete rockwall meshing there,” says Peter Standring, Maintenance Contract Manager for NZTA in Central Otago.

Works starts Monday, 10 June for three weeks to the end of June, at the Kawarau River bridge, between Gibbston and Arrow Junction.

  • Road users should build in up to 15 minutes extra while this work is underway, 8.30am to 4.30pm weekdays. Traffic managers using Stop/Go paddles will pause traffic either side as needed.
  • As well as attaching mesh to the bluff, rock bolting and minor rock removal will be completed also as part of the regular autumn scaling.
