Planned night closures on Brynderwyn Hill for maintenance works

The work will be carried out one lane at a time between Artillery Road and SH12 intersection between 6:00pm and 6:00am finishing on Friday July 30.

Stop/go traffic management will be in place and motorists are advised that delays are possible.

The closures are required to carry out a range of maintenance tasks including road resurfacing and drainage.

Please note this work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled.

Road users are reminded to plan ahead and allow more time for their journeys on these nights.

Heavy rain for Coromandel and Bay of Plenty prompts call for motorists to take care

Waikato motorists should also remain alert, with a Heavy Rain Watch in place.

Waka Kotahi Regional Manager Maintenance and Operations Rob Campbell says motorists should expect the unexpected and remain alert.
“Avoid unnecessary travel and take care. Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly and there is a chance we may need to close some roads.

“Drive to the conditions and watch out for surface flooding, slips and fallen trees or branches. Check your intended route for hazards or disruptions before setting out, using the Waka Kotahi interactive Journey Planner website (journeys.nzta.govt.nz), and remain alert for unreported hazards.”

MetService meteorologist Angus Hines says parts of the Coromandel Peninsula, including Whitianga, have already reported over 30mm of rain this morning, with more on the way.

“Heavy Rain Warnings remain in force throughout Coromandel and Bay of Plenty until his afternoon, which could cause surface flooding and slips in these region. Drivers should also be wary of poor visibility during heavy rain.”

Mr Campbell asks motorists to be mindful of contractors who could be out clearing hazards off the road, and drive slowly through work sites.

“We want to see everyone get home safely. Stay safe and stay alert.”

Crash, Rocks Road (SH6), Britannia Heights, Nelson

Emergency services are responding to a single-car crash on Rocks Road, Britannia Heights.

The crash was reported to Police just before 1.30pm.

The sole-occupant has moderate injuries.

The car, which has rolled, collided with a street light causing it to come down across the road.

Cordons are in place where SH6 intersects with Richardson Street and Bisley Avenue.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Crash, Rakaia Gorge Road, Windwhistle

Emergency services are currently attending a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 77, Rakaia Gorge Road – between Zig Zag Road and Arundel Rakaia Gorge Road.

The crash was reported to Police at about 6.40am and it is causing a delay to traffic in the area.

There is ice on this stretch of road and we are asking motorists to travel with extreme care.

Serious Crash – Governors Bay Road

Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on Governors Bay Road, near Rapaki Bay.

Police were notified of the single-car crash at about 8:50pm.

Two people appear to have received injuries in the crash, one of them serious. 

The road is closed between Omaru Road and Sandy Beach Road, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

The Serious Crash Unit have been advised.

Police are responding to reports a car has hit a pedestrian on State Highway 30, Whakatāne.

Staff were notified at 4.40pm.

One person is in a serious condition following this incident.
